Everett council approves appointment of Judge Thomas Wynne

EVERETT — The Everett City Council on Wednesday approved Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Thomas Wynne’s appointment to Everett Municipal Court.

The position has been open since July, when Municipal Court Judge Timothy O’Dell retired. Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson announced the appointment of Wynne for the seat in November.

Wynne, 73, is retiring from Superior Court in January, and then will serve on the Municipal Court until the November 2017 election. The City Council also had to pass a measure to allow a judge who lives outside city limits to sit on the court.

The municipal court hears about 25,000 misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, infractions and parking cases each year. Other judges have filled O’Dell’s seat on a pro tem basis since July.
