EVERETT — Firefighters in Everett discovered a marijuana growing operation Monday while extinguishing a house fire.
Fire crews were summoned about 2:30 a.m. to a house in the 4600 block of Broadway. Heavy smoke was billowing from the house. Firefighters went inside and extinguished a fire that had started in a bedroom. Three people living in the home escaped the blaze without any injuries.
While inside, the fire crew found marijuana plants growing in a different room, according to fire officials.
Detectives with the Snohomish Regional Drug and Gang Task Force were called to the scene to investigate. It was unclear Monday if any arrests had been made in connection with the indoor garden.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Damage to the home was estimated at $45,000.
