Older Everett-area adults are being treated to a free spaghetti dinner. All they have to do is make a reservation.
The dinner, scheduled for March 24, is open to any Everett-area senior. However, event sponsors are putting out a special invitation to Everett High School graduates.
The annual dinner is a project of the high school’s Leadership Class, said Jake Stacy, a member of the organization.
In past years, up to 400 people have turned out for the event and students expect a full house again this year, he said. The dinner begins at 5 p.m. in the school’s cafeteria.
The dinner has become a tradition at Everett High School, bringing generations together and providing a way for the students to give back to their community, said Jim McNally, a school district executive director.
“This is one of the most anticipated events of the year at the school, by students and adults, and it is one of the examples of ways students learn outside of their classroom experiences,” he said.
Students are contacting people who have attended the event in the past to give them a personal invitation, Stacy said. They’ve also posted sign-up sheets at senior centers and retirement homes.
Stacy said that for all the effort involved in working on the dinner last year, in the end, it felt worthwhile.
“I felt very satisfied,” he said. “It felt really good that they were so happy with the event. A lot of them really enjoyed themselves.”
In fact, when reminder calls for the event were made this year, many remembered what a good time they had.
“You should hear some of these people when we tell them about it,” he said. “They get so excited.”
