EVERETT — Several thousand people who are walking this weekend to raise money to fight breast cancer will make their way through downtown Everett and the city’s historic neighborhoods today.
The 2009 Seattle Susan G. Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer 3-Day began Friday at Shoreline Community College. From there, walkers moved north to Richmond Beach, Woodway, Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mukilteo before stopping for the night in south Everett at Kasch Park near Paine Field after covering about 20 miles.
There are two official cheering stations along the route in Everett today. Walker supporters can go to Jackson Elementary School at 3700 Federal Ave. from 8 to 11 a.m., and Verizon corporate offices at 1800 41st St. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Walkers will cover about 20 more miles today and again spend tonight in Everett, then take buses toward Seattle on Sunday for the final 20 miles. From there, they’ll walk through Green Lake Park, Wallingford and Gas Works Park. They’ll move through Capitol Hill and downtown Seattle before ending the event with a closing ceremony in Memorial Stadium at Seattle Center.
