EVERETT – Three people were hospitalized after a fire destroyed a house in the Lowell neighborhood of Everett on Sunday morning.
Two of the nine occupants of the rental home at 5515 S. Second Street suffered smoke inhalation, and an Everett firefighter was taken to the Providence Colby campus as a precaution for a rapid heart rate, said fire Battalion Chief Nick Walker. All three were treated and released, he said.
The fire, reported about 8:30 a.m., engulfed the basement of the house, Walker said. The basement was totaled and everything on the main floor was destroyed by smoke and heat, he said. He estimated the damage at $150,000.
The Red Cross was called to find the displaced family a place to stay, he said.
Faulty wiring is suspected as the cause of the blaze, Walker said.

EDMONDS – No one was injured as a fire did an estimated $10,000 in damage to a home at 20415 79th Ave. W. in Edmonds early Sunday.
The family dog was killed in the fire.
Firefighters responded to an alarm at 2:43 a.m. and found one of the home’s upstairs bedrooms on fire, according to Edmonds fire Battalion Chief Greg Lucas. The occupants had all gotten out of the home before fire crews arrived.
After extinguishing the fire, firefighters searched the home and found the dog in the room that burned, according to Lucas. An examination of the home determined that the fire was an accident, he said. An exact cause was not given.
