EVERETT – The city of Everett has completed a $25,000 upgrade to its Web site in an effort to make it more streamlined, user-friendly and perhaps even a bit trendy.
The site can be found online at www.ci.everett.wa.us.
The updated site was launched Friday, when the city’s technical wizards dismissed a green-trimmed version, which, at five years old, was practically archaic.
The new site, which presents the port city in calming shades of blue and gray, is divided into four main categories: Live, Work, Play and City Hall.
“We believe this could be the best municipal Web site in the country right now,” city spokeswoman Kate Reardon said.
Everett’s technology gurus began sifting through the 30,000-plus pages of Internet content last summer, discarding and down-sizing information until just 7,000 pages remained. The city gathered photographs of Everett residents and hired Everett-based marketing firm Luminous to develop a template.
The city’s home page features news flashes, and each page offers contact information and a “How Do I?” box that answers frequently asked questions.
City Council agendas are posted each week.
The site gets about 80,000 unique hits each month, Reardon said. That’s up from 60,000 last year, and about 45,000 the year before.
