EVERETT — An Everett man has been charged with second-degree murder in the shooting death of a Shoreline man in south Everett.
James Prizmich, 45, is accused of killing Cory Hamilton, 38. Prosecutors believe the two men were arguing over drugs July 28 when Prizmich gunned down Hamilton in the driveway outside of a house, according to the charging papers filed Friday in Snohomish County Superior Court.
Prizmich, a convicted felon, was out on bail at the time of the fatal shooting. He had been charged with unlawful gun possession and first-degree escape after he allegedly opened fire with an assault rifle at an Everett park in February.
Corrections officers also reported that Prizmich may have been planning to escape when he hid a piece of metal in his mouth while being booked into jail for the illegal gun possession arrest.
Prizmich surrendered to police a few days after the July shooting. He is being held in the Snohomish County Jail on $500,000 bail.
