Two Everett firefighters jogging along an Evergreen Way sidewalk tapped on the back of a blue Mustang that had been driven across their path.
They said the tap was done to alert the driver that there was someone behind the car.
The vehicle’s driver took umbrage, followed them in his car and drove one of them down, prosecutors said in court papers filed Tuesday.
Mark K. Dummer, 39, of Everett was charged in Snohomish County Superior Court with two felonies in the Oct. 17 incident in south Everett, second-degree assault and hit-and-run with an injury.
Witnesses said one of the joggers moved out of the way, while the other put up his hands just as the Mustang hit him. He flipped over the hood of the car.
Deputy prosecutor Paul Stern said the injured firefighter had the presence of mind to get part of the Mustang’s license plate number despite injuries to his arm, chest, back and neck.
Everett police quickly located the car and defendant, who admitted he had run down a jogger, papers say.
According to court documents, Dummer told police he got angry when someone thumped his car.
“I followed them in a small lot and got my car up to 30 or so and hit one of the guys,” Dummer reportedly told police. “He flew over my hood, and I kept going. … I felt like he hit my car. I hit him.”
