A Ukrainian national who lives in Everett was convicted of first-degree kidnapping Wednesday after he and several others were accused of taking revenge on an acquaintance they suspected of stealing a video game system from one of them.
Yevgeniv V. Andrusiv, 20, faces the possibility of a prison term of more than five years when Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Anita Farris sentences him Dec. 16.
Three other men face similar charges and are scheduled for trial over the next two months, deputy prosecutor Chris Dickinson said. A 15-year-old boy also is awaiting trial in Snohomish County Juvenile Court, Dickinson said.
Everett police were dispatched Sept. 4 to the area of 13th and Chestnut streets in north Everett when someone reported an abduction. A witness told police her friend had been standing in an alley when the defendants tried to force him into a car. He was punched and kicked when he resisted.
The victim was driven to the Lake Stevens area, being punched all the while. One of the suspects struck him in the face with a pistol, court documents say. Police eventually contacted the defendants by cell phone and talked them into returning to Everett, where the victim was released.
Other defendants being tried in adult court include Yuriy Anatolievich Samofal and Grigoriy Valeryevich Bolotin, both 21, and Oleg V. Lezhnyak, 17.
