EVERETT — A man who was shot and killed at a Snohomish County bar on Jan. 13 has been identified as Matalepuna Malu, 29.
Malu, of Everett, reportedly was shooting at others, injuring one person, when a bar employee pulled a weapon and fired.
Malu, whose street name was “June Bug,” was well-known to local law enforcement. He had a lengthy criminal history, including firearms offenses and gang ties. He was arrested in Marysville in July after a confrontation at a house party.
The shooting at O’Finnigans Pub & Grill, on Highway 99 south of Everett, remains under investigation by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives have not said whether they are exploring themes of self-defense for the bar employee.
Malu was shot multiple times, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office reported Friday. His death was ruled a homicide. That is a medical determination about the circumstances of his death, not a legal finding.
