EVERETT — A 59-year-old man with previous sex crime history was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison for possessing child pornography.
The defendant, who lives in Everett, pleaded guilty in January in U.S. District Court in Seattle.
In October, a U.S. probation officer found a computer belonging to the defendant at another man’s house in Everett. On it were multiple pictures depicting children being sexually abused and exploited.
The friend, 64, who also has previous sex offense history, said they shared the computer. He pleaded guilty to access with intent to view child pornography. His sentencing is scheduled for May.
The two met at sex offender treatment classes and became friends, according to court documents.
Looking at the younger man’s history, U.S. attorney Brian Moran wrote that “even close supervision cannot stop him from committing new crimes.”
In 2006, the defendant was sentenced to nearly 13 years for possessing child pornography. In 1998, he was found guilty of molesting and raping a child.
“Plainly, (the defendant’s) sexual appetite for children is as strong today as it ever was,” Moran wrote. “A lengthy custodial sentence and lifetime supervision is therefore entirely warranted.”
