An Everett man was sentenced to more than six years in prison Thursday for a drunken display of street racing that ended in three deaths Feb. 23.
Grant Raymond Fosheim, 20, tearfully apologized for driving his 1994 Ford Mustang at 80 mph through a downtown Everett, crashing into a van.
Fosheim was drunk and racing a truck driven by an Everett teen at the time of the crash.
Killed were the van’s driver, Jenny McCollum, 52, and two of Fosheim’s passengers, Michael Seavy, 20, and Cory Baudry, 18. A third man in the Mustang, Dan Terry, 19, was seriously injured. All of the victims are from Everett.
Fosheim last month pleaded guilty to three counts of vehicular homicide.
In keeping with recommendations from both the prosecution and defense, Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Linda Krese sentenced Fosheim to 75 months behind bars, the maximum punishment under state sentencing guidelines.
At the sentencing, the judge called Fosheim’s attention to a guest editorial today in The Herald, written by McCollum’s husband. Jerry McCollum urged Fosheim to spend his life giving the survivors of his crime a reason to forgive him. The article can be read at www.heraldnet.com/cs-protected/03/12/18/17913926.cfm
“I don’t think you can just expect forgiveness,” Krese said. “I think you have to work at it.”
