Everett man shot during argument outside motel

EVERETT – A 63-year-old Everett man was shot in the head and suffered other injuries late Friday night in the parking lot of the Motel 6 in the 10000 block of Evergreen Way.

The man told police he was arguing in the parking lot with another man, who then shot him, police said. A passing motorist saw the man around 11 p.m. after he had been assaulted and called police.

Everett police Sgt. Boyd Bryant said the man, who owns a home in south Everett, had not been staying in the motel and wasn’t visiting anyone there.

“We don’t believe the assault had any connection to the business there,” he said. “They just happened to wind up in the same place.”

The man had other injuries, although police declined to say what they were. He was in serious condition Saturday night at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he underwent surgery to explore neck wounds and remove bullet fragments from his jaw and cheek.

Detectives are looking for witnesses who may have seen the argument or shooting. Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Everett Police Department tip line at 425-527-8490.

Marysville

I-5 closed briefly: A suicidal 17-year-old boy threatening to jump from the 88th Street NE overpass near Marysville forced the closure of both lanes of I-5 and the overpass for about a half-hour Saturday morning.

The boy was talked out of committing suicide by a Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputy and taken into custody.

A passing motorist called 911 around 10:40 a.m. and reported someone was hanging from the overpass above the highway.

Deputies from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol troopers and police officers from Maryville and the Tulalip reservation arrived on the scene, said sheriff’s office spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen.

The boy was outside the railing and talking about jumping onto I-5, she said. Officers closed the highway and the overpass, and were able to get him to come back up to safety.

The boy was taken for a mental health evaluation, she said.

Stanwood

Two-vehicle accident: An 82-year-old Stanwood man and two girls from Camano Island were injured Saturday afternoon when two cars collided in a hailstorm on Highway 532.

Both vehicles – a red Toyota Corolla and a blue van – were traveling westbound on the highway near 36th Avenue NW when the accident happened at 2:25 p.m.

Edward C. Johnson was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. The driver of the van was uninjured, but two girls, ages 9 and 11, were treated and released at Providence Everett Medical Center’s Colby Campus.

Everett

Listing ship is OK: A large ship in the harbor at the Port of Everett’s Hewitt Avenue marine terminal appears to be listing, but is not in danger, a port security officer said.

The ship is listing because it hasn’t taken on any oil, which will balance the ship and lower it in the water, he said. The ship is scheduled to leave Tuesday or Wednesday.
