An Everett mother who allegedly beat and shook her 1 1/2 -year-old son was charged Thursday with second-degree assault of a child.
Melissa Marie Moser, 23, will be summoned to appear in Snohomish County Superior Court Aug. 18 for arraignment.
All the abuse took place in the spring at Moser’s south Everett residence, deputy prosecutor George Appel alleges.
Appel accused Moser of putting the child in his crib forcefully, smacking him in the mouth and hitting him so hard as to cause the toddler to strike a wall, making him looked “shocked.”
In May, the child followed Moser around “screaming,” Appel said. It now appears the toddler had been “suffering from pain caused by blood collecting inside his skull” since an earlier abuse incident in April, Appel said.
No medical attention was sought for the child until the day after he suffered a seizure and began vomiting in late May, Appel alleges.
Doctors said the child had a skull fracture and bleeding in his head. The bleeding is consistent with shaking or impacts, Appel said.
