EVERETT — Everett police on Wednesday identified the kayaker reported missing last week between Edgewater Park and Mukilteo.
Police acknowledge the search for Miguel Urbano, 44, is now a recovery effort, not a rescue. On Monday, officers used the department’s Unmanned Aircraft System to search for Urbano.
Police continued searching Wednesday, 10 days after Urbano went missing on the evening of Aug. 18.
Shortly before 5:20 p.m., first responders responded to a report of a water rescue when heavy wind and rain swamped multiple paddleboarders.
Five people were safely rescued or managed to rescue themselves. Everett firefighters rescued three individuals, one from the water and two others who were found clinging to the end of the Boeing pier. A rescue boat from Washington State Ferries helped pull another person from the water.
Multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Northwest, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Mukilteo fire and police departments, South County Fire and Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue participated in the rescue efforts.
During the rescue, first responders discovered Urbano, in a kayak and not connected with the paddleboarders, was missing in the area. He reportedly was not wearing a life jacket.
