The Everett School District has cut off e-mail communication that allows messages to be sent through anonymous, untraceable servers, officials said today.
The decision comes in the wake of a series of e-mail threats at several schools over the last few weeks.
School officials said the list of service providers includes hotmail.com and yahoo.com.
“We regret that we must do this, but we are doing it to better enable us to trace threats and find the person(s) who are making those threats,” the district said in a letter to parents.
The new practice would include correspondence between teacher and parent using untraceable accounts.
“This is really hard to do,” said Gay Campbell, a school district spokewoman. “… It’s very disappointing to us, too.”
