EVERETT — The Everett School Board has delayed the application deadline until Feb. 5 in its national search for a new superintendent.
Board members originally planned to end the process Jan. 22, but weather-related problems kept announcements from being posted earlier with key organizations, said Mary Waggoner, a school district spokeswoman.
The district of more than 18,000 students has listed a salary range of $190,000 to $210,000 for the post.
The board hopes to begin screening applications as early as Feb. 6. It plans to begin interviews later in the month. A final decision could be made by March or April.
“They aren’t going to rush this,” Waggoner said.
Board members said they decided not to hire an outside consultant for the search, partly because it could save $50,000 to $75,000, Waggoner said.
In its job description, the district has listed a series of qualities, including the ability to improve student achievement and engaging families in helping students succeed.
Other criteria were more specific, such as a willingness to make a long-term commitment to the district and community and the ability to value racial and cultural diversity.
The list was compiled after the district received responses from about 600 people who filled out a Web-based survey. It also heard from about 100 others in public meetings.
The position opened when Superintendent Carol Whitehead retired in September. She was replaced by interim Superintendent Karst Brandsma, who was the district’s deputy superintendent.
