MONROE – An Everett teenager and a Newcastle man are dead after a crash on Highway 203 south of Monroe Monday night involving a motorcycle and a car.
The Washington State Patrol identified the victims as Myka Campbell, 17, and Thomas Walter Devine, 44. Campbell was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle by helicopter where she died.
The force of the collision flipped the car Campbell was driving. The Newcastle man who was on the motorcycle died at the scene, Trooper Keith Leary said.
A passenger in the car, a Granite Falls man, 18, also was flown to Harborview, Leary said. On Tuesday morning, the man was in serious condition in the hospital’s intensive care unit, a spokeswoman said.
The crash occurred at 7:33 p.m. at Tualco Road and Highway 203 just a few miles south of Monroe.
An older-model Pontiac Grand Am was heading east on Tualco Road and the driver apparently pulled the car onto the highway in front of the Harley Davidson motorcycle, Leary said.
The motorcycle struck the driver’s side of the Pontiac Grand Am.
The accident blocked all lanes of the highway. Traffic was able to move around the wreckage by driving on the shoulder late Monday night.
Police are investigating speed and failure to yield as likely causes of the crash.
