EVERETT — Bus fares for Everett Transit routes could soon double.
The agency proposes increasing all fares starting next January. The increases would be done in increments of 25 cents every six months until the new fare is reached.
If approved, by the end of 2020 adult and paratransit fares would double to $2, youth riders would pay $1 and fares for seniors and people with disabilities would rise to 50 cents.
The change would generate an estimated $2.1 million in additional revenue over a five-year period, according to Everett Transit. Fares bring in about $1.3 million in revenue each year.
Fares also are rising on Community Transit routes by 25 cents beginning in October.
