ELLENSBURG — An Everett woman was killed in a crash on I-90 about 13 miles east of Kittitas Tuesday morning, according to Washington State Patrol troopers.
Shannon D. Prendergast, 20, was driving east on I-90 around 5:30 a.m. when her 2004 Mazda Tribute hit an overturned 2018 Dodge Ram pickup truck, according to a State Patrol news release.
The pickup truck’s driver, 21-year-old Justin C. Tamez of Ellensburg, had swerved after seeing an animal in the road and hit the guardrail, the release said. Tamez’s truck then rolled over and blocked the eastbound lanes of the highway, according to troopers.
Prendergast’s car went almost a quarter-mile down the highway before hitting a fence on the right westbound shoulder, according to the news release. Tamez’s truck was then hit by a semi truck, which did not stop, the release said.
Tamez, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to KVH Hospital, where his condition was not immediately available. Prendergast was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
The state patrol said intoxicants were not a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
