EVERETT — A woman in her 70s was displaced from her home near Beverly Lake by electrical fire on Saturday evening, Everett firefighters said.
The woman had been watching television at the house on the 300 block of 75th Street SE when she heard a popping sound shortly before 7:30 p.m., assistant fire marshal Eric Hicks said. She went to the utility room to investigate and saw flames coming from the electrical panel. She ran out of the house after a failed attempt to use a fire extinguisher.
Once firefighters arrived, they were able to put out the flames within minutes, Hicks said. Smoke and flames caused severe interior damage to the house.
A faulty electrical system sparked the fire, investigators determined. No one was injured. The local American Red Cross chapter was helping the woman.
