EVERETT — Forest Park has a farm, E-I-E-I-O.
Every summer, the Animal Farm petting zoo helps educate kids about farm life, with a cluck cluck here and a quack quack there.
It opened for the season Saturday and will remain open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Aug. 16.
This year’s batch of animals include nine baby goats, two ducklings, three ducks, a goose, two sheep, a miniature horse, three regular horses, two pigs, a calf, and more chickens and rabbits than you can shake a stick at.
The Animal Farm has a collection of loaned and donated barnyard animals that live in the park during the summer.
“The goats are always a huge draw,” said Christine Diamond, assistant manager at the farm.
Hundreds of youngsters visited over the weekend. The farm attracts thousands of visitors every year. Activities include educational programs, pony rides and photo shoots.
The farm was created in the 1970s to replace the old city zoo. The zoo over the years housed a variety of exotic animals, including lions, zebras, bison, sun bears, rhesus monkeys, an elephant and a kangaroo.
