EVERETT — Get your dog’s star-spangled bandana ready: The city is putting on a presidential-themed Mutt Strut 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Langus Riverfront Park, 400 Smith Island Road, near the city’s new animal shelter.
Dogs and their people can join in a community walk and enjoy pet-friendly booths.
There will also be a series of competitive events including racing, catching, jumping, best vocals, best dressed and most tricks in a minute. By the way, those events are for the dogs, with the exception of the dog-owner look-alike contest.
The day wraps up with a second community dog walk, a performance by dancing dogs and live music.
If you live in Everett or unincorporated Snohomish County you can get a free microchip for your dog. Microchip implants allow pets to be easily identified if they escape and run like heck every time you open the front door.
If you’re longing for another furry friend, more than 100 cats and dogs will be available for adoption.
Admission is free. Registration is required to enter the competitions and the fee to compete is $5 per event or $10 for unlimited contest entries. All dogs receive a free bandana.
Rules and a schedule of events is at www.everettwa.org/muttstrut or call 425-257-8300.
