TACOMA — A former soldier has pleaded not guilty to charges related to a rocket that authorities found on the roof of his Tacoma home.
The News Tribune reported 44-year-old Tracy Worwood pleaded not guilty Thursday to unlawful possession of an explosive device and reckless endangerment. He was released on his own recognizance.
Charging documents say the mother of Worwood’s son reported the anti-tank projectile to the FBI after her son found the device.
Tacoma police responded to Worwood’s home Wednesday. They evacuated nearby homes, while federal agents removed the device and took it to a landfill where it was safely detonated.
Records say Worwood told investigators he thought the rocket was a training round.
Worwood ended his career with the Army at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in 2005.
