EVERETT — Former Mill Creek City Councilman Terry Ryan on Wednesday announced plans to run for the Snohomish County Council’s District 4 seat this fall.
The position represents a swath of the county from Mill Creek and Silver Firs south to Mountlake Terrace, Brier and Bothell. The seat currently is held by County Councilman Dave Gossett, a Democrat from Mountlake Terrace. Gossett cannot run for the job again. By year’s end he will have served a maximum three consecutive four-year terms.
Ryan, 55, had served on the Mill Creek City Council for more than 17 years when he resigned in September, citing work commitments. He’s a commercial real estate agent with four children. He’s also an accomplished high school and youth soccer coach.
In a press release, Ryan, a Democrat, said his endorsements come from all points on the political compass: Democratic County Council members Brian Sullivan and Stephanie Wright; Marysville Mayor Jon Nehring; Snohomish Mayor Karen Guzak; and Mountlake Terrace Mayor Jerry Smith, among others.
Also term-limited this year is Republican County Councilman John Koster of Arlington. Arlington City Councilman Ken Klein and long-time Marysville realtor Gary Wright say they intend to run for Koster’s seat representing District 1, which includes much of north Snohomish County.
