OLYMPIA — A man accused of throwing acid in the face of an Olympia judge who issued a restraining order against him pleaded not guilty to assault and malicious mischief charges.
Thurston County prosecutors say Michael Edward Martin, 33, went to the home of District Judge Michael “Brett” Buckley in September 2012 and threw sulfuric acid in his face when he answered the door.
The Olympian reports Buckley was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and was back at work in two days.
Investigators said Martin was angry with Buckley for a 2011 order barring Martin from contacting his girlfriend.
If convicted of the acid attack he faces up to 10 years in prison. The former Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier just finished a 17-month sentence for threating an Army prosecutor.
