ABERDEEN — A Colorado company will drill for natural gas next month near Montesano in Grays Harbor County.
A geologist with the state Department of Natural Resources, Dave Norman, said it’s an exploratory well. He also said it will be a conventional vertical hole into marine sediments and sandstone and won’t use the “fracking” technique used in other parts of the country.
The Daily World reported that permits for the well were obtained by St. Helens Energy, an affiliate of Comet Ridge Resources of Denver.
Drilling will continue through 2013. If commercial amounts of natural gas are found, the company would have to acquire more permits before production could start in 2015.
