Everett Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration: With a performance by the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Choir, 3 p.m. Sunday at Everett’s Spirit of Grace United Methodist Church, 3530 Colby Ave. Toyia Taylor will speak at the event supported by the Snohomish County Black Heritage Committee. The event is free and open to the public.
Whidbey Island community Martin Luther King Jr. event: A “Blessed Be the Peace Makers” event will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Augustine’s-in-the-Woods Episcopal Church, 5217 Honeymoon Bay Road, Freeland. Free refreshments served an hour before the event in the parish hall. Speaking will be Ora Houston, a leader in the Union of Black Episcopalians. The singing of civil rights anthems and traditional African-American spirituals will be part of the service. Music minister Karl Olsen, of Freeland’s Trinity Lutheran Church, will lead the singing. There will be a free-will offering for Helping Hand; food donations also accepted.
Temple Beth Or: An annual Tu B’Shevat celebration of the Jewish new year that recognizes trees will be held the evening of Feb. 7 at Everett’s Temple Beth Or. The temple membership committee will host a community dinner at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 7 and the Seder will begin at 7 p.m. Temple Beth Or is at 3215 Lombard Ave., Everett. Information: www.TempleBethOr.org.

Parenting series: Bethany Christian Assembly in Everett will present “Have a New Kid by Friday,” a parenting series on DVD conducted by psychologist and author Kevin Leman. First Baptist Church of Everett: will host a traditional worship service at 10:30 a.m. Friday in its Worship Center. The service is open to the public as an outreach program. The Rev. John Sinkevitch will lead the worship service and teaching will be offered by Brian Harpell, senior pastor at First Baptist Church. The church is at 1616 Pacific Ave., Everett.
Living Interfaith: The Living Interfaith nondenominational group meets twice a month at Alderwood Middle School, 20000 28th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
