Church donates ton and a half of food to VOA
Christian Faith Center-North in Everett recently donated about 1 1/2 tons of food to Volunteers of America in Everett. Church members began collecting the food in mid-October at both the north and south campuses. The south campus, which has a larger congregation, collected more than three tons of food, which was donated to the Multi Service Center in Federal Way.
Christian Faith Center started holding food drives about five years ago, said Debbie Willis, a church staff member.
“We do not have our own food banks, and one church cannot be all things to all people, so we help other organizations with what they specialize in,” she said.
The church normally holds a food drive once a year in the fall, she said, but last spring the Multi Service Center in Federal Way asked the church if it could hold a spring food drive.
“They were about out of food so we did a drive last spring and collected more than 10 tons of food in the south for the Multi Service Center, and about one and a half tons in the north for VOA.”

Baptist pastor to talk about Cuban mission
Brian Harpell, senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Everett, plans to provide a presentation about his recent trip to Cuba from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday at 1616 Pacific Ave., Everett.
Harpell recently returned from a 15-day mission trip with Action Ministries International, an evangelical, nondenominational missionary agency that works in Asia, Europe, Latin America and Africa.
Harpell and a team from the mission agency visited various locations in Cuba, including Havana, Santiago de Cuba, Bayamo and Camaguey.
The group had originally planned to offer two conferences for church leaders, but had to change their plans because of damage and transportation disruption caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
Hurricane Paloma approached Cuba at Camaguey while Harpell and the team were in the county but was categorized only as a tropical storm upon landfall.
