The Cascade Early Music Festival and Trinity Lutheran Church present “Saeculum Aur­eum,” chamber music from the time of Beethoven, 6 p.m. Sunday at Fir-Conway Lutheran Church, 18101 Fir Island Road, Conway.

The concert features Jeffrey Cohan on eight-keyed flute, Richard Spece on classical period clarinet, William McColl on classical period basset horn and Oleg Timofeyev on Russian seven-string guitar.

The Maltby Congregational Church plays host to the Greater Maltby Community Summer Concert and Barbecue with music guests Beth Whitney, Aaron Fishburn and Stillwater from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 24 at 21111 86th Ave. SE, Snohomish.

Whitney, 24, of Snohomish will perform from her debut album “Leave Your Shoes,” released on Malamute Records. She is also performing at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe at 2:15 p.m. Aug. 22. Stillwater members include Bob McAllister, guitar and vocals; Kris Forster, fiddle and vocals; and Jeanne Whitney, mandolin and vocals. Stillwater has performed at various outdoor festivals and plans to perform at the Everett Farmers Market in September. The band’s sound is a mix of country, folk and gospel and features both acoustics and vocal harmonies.

Canyon Hills Community Church offers a summer concert series from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays through Aug. 27 with a barbecue dinner from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by the concert at 7 p.m. at 22027 17th Ave. SE, Bothell.

The lineup: Warren Barfield, Wednesday; Big Daddy Weave, Aug. 20; and Rend the Heavens, Aug. 27. The concert is free with bounce houses for kids.

The cost for food is $4. Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged.

Kids events

New Beginnings Church plays host to a back-to-school block party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at 2400 Lombard Ave., Everett.

Volunteers plan to give away school supplies, haircuts, food and prizes. The event includes live entertainment, a mini-­theater and games for kids.

Westminster Presbyterian Church plays host to a Son Harvest County Fair vacation Bible school from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday to Friday at 2531 Hoyt Ave., Everett, for kids from kindergarten through fifth grade. The program is free and includes singing, crafts, Bible stories, activities and snacks.

Maple Park Church of the Lutheran Brethren in Lynnwood presents Sonworld Adventure Park vacation Bible school from 9 a.m. to noon Monday to Thursday for kids from age 4 to fifth grade. A mothers’ class and care for kids 3 and under is included.

Tune in for a Catholic radio program, “Conversations with Father Bob,” today, Tuesday and Thursday. Broadcasts are 8 to 9 a.m. Saturdays on KKNW (1150 AM) and 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and 9 to 10 p.m. Thursdays on KBLE (1050 AM).

This week, guest host Father Bryan Dolejsi plans to talk to newly ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Seattle, Father Jack Shrum. Shrum is a graduate of Kamiak High School. Dolejsi also plans to interview Dr. James Savage, the award-winning music director at St. James Cathedral.

Rummage sales

The First Christian Reformed Church holds a neighborhood swap meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today in the church parking lot at 1429 McDougall Ave., Everett.

Organizers invite the public to set up tables with items to sell or drop by to find great items and homemade pies. Church volunteers plan to provide concessions.

Senior high youth at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Marysville hold a garage sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Aug. 16 at 7215 51st Ave. NE, Marysville.

The event includes a car wash Saturday and a buck-a-bag sale from 3 to 4 p.m. daily. Proceeds are slated to help fund a trip to a Christian youth conference. Donations of clean, gently used clothing, toys and games, sporting goods, households items and furniture in good condition can be donated starting Sunday.
