Shabbat

Chabad Jewish Center of Snohomish County will celebrate a special Shabbat service at 7 p.m. Friday.

Shabbat is a traditional day of rest, enrichment and renewal.

The event will include a Hanukkah Shabbat dinner and traditional Hanukkah food, songs and games.

Reservations are required.

Festival

Everett First Presbyterian Church will hold an interdenominational, cross-cultural New Year’s festival at 10 a.m. Dec. 30. Guests will be Byron and Inez Ahina of Christ in the Yucatan.

Classes

  • Everett First Presbyterian Church presents a special class called “Matthew’s R-Rated Version of Advent.”

    The study is billed as a “shockingly accurate” account of Advent, not a children’s story, but a story for adults that is intended to awaken the mind to the character of the Gospel.

    Youth will be verifying the age of all participants at the door.

    The class meets from 11:20 a.m. to 12:14 p.m. on Dec. 9, 16 and 23 at Everett First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett.

  • Torah classes and discussions for practicing Jews or those who wish to learn more about their faith take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays at Chabad Jewish Center of Snohomish County, 19 W. Intercity Ave., Everett. The classes are free for adults and teenagers (with parents’ permission).

  • Chabad Jewish Center of Snohomish County announces a 11-week course on the mystical view of our nature entitled “Ten Steps to the Inner You.”

    The 11-week winter semester of Wednesday Night Kabbalah will begin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Chabad Jewish Center, 19 W. Intercity Ave., Everett. The class is open to adults; teenagers are welcome at parents’ discretion. The class is free; no registration required.

  • The class Creating Public Rituals will be offered through the Evergreen Unitarian Universalist Fellowship from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Dec. 11 and 18.

    A Dec. 21 class will feature the Winter Solstice Ritual. The class will include basic ritual elements, energy flow and performance skills for ritual leaders.

    Instructor fee is $35.

    Students will work together to design and lead the annual Winter Solstice Festival at Evergreen Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1607 Fourth St., Marysville.

    Luncheon

    The Mill Creek Christian Women’s Connection presents the luncheon, “Holiday Entertaining Made Easy.”

    Mary Pat Connors and Debi Bock from Kusler’s in Snohomish will share ideas for hostess gifts and decorating with candles, chandeliers and low centerpieces for your holiday table.

    Karla Burgin will sing, and speaker Lois Williams will talk about keepsakes.

    This event will take place at the Mill Creek Country Club, 15500 Country Club Drive, Mill Creek, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13. The luncheon costs $18.

    Reservations and cancellations are required by Dec. 11.

    There will be singing around the fireplace, s’mores making and caroling around the church neighborhood.

  • The Farm Ministries Youth Outreach plans a Christmas party for shelter families from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 9.

    The party is free and will feature a catered holiday meal along with various activities for families, including photos with Santa Claus and holiday stockings for children.

    Women’s events

    Registration is now open for the next two series of the Christian-based “Learn to Let Go and Grow” inspirational and motivational workshops that will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday or Thursdays beginning Jan. 8 and 10 at the Old Snohomish Library, 105 Cedar Ave., Snohomish. Each of the evenings will feature a different series. Members select one seven-week series.

    Workshops are open to all women who register in advance. They will be taught by motivational speaker and registered counselor Kitty Jones.

    Support groups

    GriefShare, a weekly seminar and support group for people who are grieving a death, meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays at Church of the Nazarene, 8240 64th St. NE, Marysville.
