MOTHER’S DAY

Gospel Light Temple invites all mothers and their families to a Mother’s Day service, 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Morning worship will feature R. Terrell and Debbie Brinson from Cleveland, Tenn. Brinson is an administrative assistant of the Church of God World Missions Department. Mothers will receive special honor and recognition.

Mass in ancient language

St. Anne’s Mission plans to host Mass spoken entirely in Lushootseed, the ancient language of Coast Salish people, at 11 a.m. Sunday. This will be the first time a Mass has been spoken in the ancient language.

Pentecost

Edmonds Christian Church invites the public to a Contemplative Labyrinth worship service for Pentecost 6 p.m. Sunday. The program includes a walk through the labyrinth, music, reflective scripture readings and a moment of silence to recall the first Pentecost and the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Celebrations

Trinity Episcopal Church, 2301 Hoyt Ave., Everett, invites the public to several retirement celebrations for Joan Willits, Trinity’s longtime preschool teacher.

A celebration lunch is planned for 11:30 a.m. Friday on the last day of preschool in Rogers’ Hall. A second celebration is planned for 11:30 a.m., directly after the 10 a.m. service on May 25 in Roger’s Hall.

Willits has served as a teacher for the church’s preschool since 1987. Everyone is invited to join in the festivities.

Benefits

Zion’s Parish Hall invites the public to MASH, or Making a Seminarian Happy, a lasagna benefit dinner for Steve Brummett’s seminary fund, 5 tonight at the Parish Hall, 330 Union Ave., Snohomish.

The church plans to show the video “A Day in the Life of a Seminarian.”

Brummett is a seminary student at Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind. Donations for the seminary fund are welcome. Golf Tourney

The senior high youth group of Marysville’s Bethlehem Lutheran Church is hosting an adult golf tournament 11 a.m. May 17 at Dutch Hill Country Club.

The youth group’s first Tourney for Teens is a three-person team scramble. It kicks off with a shotgun start, and is a fund-raiser for the church’s youth activities. The course features six holes and a couple of fish ponds on a pastoral setting.

The cost is $50 per person and includes greens fees, a bratwurst lunch, a gourmet barbecue chicken dinner and prizes. The Bethlehem Lutheran praise team will provide music. Registration is required.

Everett First United Methodist Women continues its spring garage and plant sale 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at 3530 Colby Ave., Everett. Donations are accepted, except bedding and clothing. Proceeds go for the mission work of First United Methodist Women.

Meditation

Kadampa Meditation Center continues its meditation classes, 7:30 to 9 p.m. Mondays, May 12 and 19, at Anabel’s Framing and Gallery, 2531 Broadway, Everett.

Improving Family Relationships, Four Ways of Cherishing Others, focuses on four simple techniques that Buddha taught for improving love for others. The class includes guided meditations, teachings, discussion and refreshments.

Drop-ins are welcome.

The cost is $10 per class, $5 for students, seniors and people with low incomes.

Lecture

Edmonds Lutheran Church and St. Alban’s Episcopal Church invite the public to a lecture and discussion by author Tom Sine at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Edmonds Lutheran Church, 26525 84th Ave. W., Edmonds.

Sine will discuss his recently released book “The New Conspirators: Creating the Future One Mustard Seed at a Time.”

The evening starts with a free community dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Annie’s Community Kitchen.

In his book, Sine explores what God is doing through a new generation of innovators, risk takers and entrepreneurs. He will discuss what he learned about the rapidly changing face of the church in the 21st century while doing research for his book.

Marion Shuler, a businesswoman, historian and traveler from Portland, Ore., is the speaker. Chris Daly from The Pendelton Store at the Alderwood mall will host a fashion show featuring summer outfits and accessories. Local musicians will provide music.

Speaker Marian Shuler, a Portland, Ore.-area historian, plans to share a presentation entitled “A Timid Girl Finds Confidence.” Teresa Wilson of Country Yarns in Snohomish will talk about scarves, purses, baby items and the classes she offers at her shop.
