EVERETT – A family was burned out of its apartment following a fire Sunday night.
Neighbors reported hearing an alarm about 8:20 p.m. and discovered smoke filling the apartment in the 12100 block of Admiralty Way, Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said Monday.
No one was home at the time of the fire. One of the residents returned home from work just as firefighters arrived.
The fire was contained to one bedroom. Other apartments were evacuated while firefighters checked the carbon monoxide level in the three-story building, Hynes said.
One firefighter was hurt during the fire. He was taken to Providence Everett Medical Center, where he was treated for a minor injury.
The family’s two pet cats died in the fire.
The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire, which caused about $45,000 damage.
