LYNNWOOD – Chris Porter was looking forward to being a grandfather again.
He adored his young grandson and was eager for the birth of his granddaughter in April, his family said.
“He was just waiting for her. He was thrilled when he found out the baby was a girl. He was a very good grandfather,” said his mother, Barbara Porter.
Porter, 43, was found dead in his home early Wednesday morning. His father, who lives next door, found his son after he didn’t show up for his job at an auto body shop.
Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives are investigating Porter’s death as a homicide. Investigators don’t believe his death was a random attack, sheriff’s spokesman deputy Rich Niebusch said.
The family, however, doesn’t know who would want to hurt Porter, a father of four.
“He didn’t have an enemy in the world. He was very loving. I can’t understand why someone could do this to him,” Barbara Porter said.
Porter was gentle and quiet, relatives said. Family and friends called him “Hopper,” a nickname his grandfather gave him when he was a child because “he was like a grasshopper, always busy,” his mother said.
He grew up in Snohomish County and attended Mariner High School. He bowled every Friday night with a league in Lynnwood, keeping his score sheet after every game to track his progress. He also enjoyed NASCAR auto racing and wanted to attend a race in March, his mother said.
And “he wouldn’t miss a Seahawks game for nothing,” Barbara Porter said. “I just want my son’s killer found.”
