YAKIMA — Yakima police say a 21-year-old farmworker was apparently shot by the occupant of a passing car because he was a wearing a red shirt, an apparent case of mistaken gang membership.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports the man was stopped at a stop sign when a van pulled up next to him and an occupant opened fire. The man took a bullet in his neck, but was able to drive himself to the hospital.
Sgt. Mike Henne said the man was an innocent victim of gang violence.
Police ssaid he is expected to recover.
