The speed limit recently was lifted to 60 mph on Highway 522 between the Snohomish River and Monroe. The old speed limit was 55 mph.
“Our traffic engineers recently looked into several factors for this three-mile stretch of roadway, including crash history and traffic volumes,” said Andrea Petrich, a Washington State Department of Transportation spokeswoman, in an update on local projects. “They found recent construction projects and safety upgrades in the area support the slight increase in the speed limit, which will help reduce travel times.”
