Alcohol apparently contributed to a one-car crash outside Monroe that killed the driver and critically injured his passenger Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Witnesses saw the car driving at high speed in the 13700 block of Yeager Road northeast of Monroe just before 6 p.m., said Jan Jorgensen, spokeswoman for the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver, a 45-year old man who was not identified, was going too fast to successfully make a curve. He lost control of the car, which veered off the road, hit a ditch and rolled over.
The man was dead by the time officers arrived. His 44-year-old passenger was airlifted with serious injuries to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she was in critical condition Thursday night.
Officers have determined that alcohol was a factor in the accident, Jorgensen said.
