TACOMA — The Pierce County prosecutor says a police officer was justified in fatally shooting a man who pointed a loaded handgun at him last August outside a Tacoma home.
Prosecutor Mark Lindquist said Prince Jamel Gavin, 29, refused orders to drop the gun and was shot when he raised it toward the officer. The officer had responded to a 911 call from Gavin’s girlfriend who said she had been assaulted.
Autopsy results showed Gavin had synthetic marijuana called Zombie Matter in his bloodstream at the time of his death.
Gavin was an Army combat medic from Joint Base Lewis-McChord who deployed twice to Iraq.
