TUKWILA — A fatal accident involving two semi-trucks and two cars is blocking the southbound lanes of I-405 at Tukwila, near the Southcenter shopping mall and the I-5 interchange.
The Department of Transportation says the crash is likely to keep the southbound lanes closed until 10 a.m. Traffic is backed up for more than four miles.
Trooper Cliff Pratt told KOMO-TV one person was killed. One truck burned for about 30 minutes.
The Transportation Department says the crash happened just before 7 a.m. and the accident has caused traffic to back up for miles on the route to Sea-Tac Airport and nearby highways. The crash investigation is likely to block the highway for hours.
The truck burned under an overpass that connects to the shopping mall. A DOT spokeswoman told KIRO-TV the overpass will have to be inspected for its structural integrity before reopening.
