SEATTLE — FBI statistics show there were 195 hate crimes reported in Washington in 2007, an increase over 2006, when 177 hate crimes were reported in the state.
The FBI said Monday that 104 people who reported hate crimes in 2007 were the targeted because of their race, 17 were targeted because of religion, 39 were targeted because of their sexual orientation, 34 because of their ethnicity and one person because of a disability.
The state with the highest number of reported hate crimes in 2007 was California, with 1,400.
