Federal agencies holding hearing in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — Three federal agencies are holding a hearing Tuesday night at Port Angeles on a new Border Patrol policy that stops agents from providing language translation help to local police.

The Peninsula Daily News reported that representatives from the Justice Department, Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection planned the hearing at Peninsula College to respond to civil rights concerns.

The federal government ordered Border Patrol agents in November to stop providing the language assistance because of objections from Latinos.
