Washington State Patrol troopers arrested 39 impaired drivers and wrote 484 speeding tickets over the Memorial Day weekend on state roads between the King-Snohomish county line and the Canadian border.
That’s not nearly as many as the year before, trooper Keith Leary said. In 2009, 62 were arrested for drunken driving and 979 got speeding tickets.
The numbers also include Island County.
In stormy weather, “many drivers think safety and know they have to be extra cautious to avoid an unsafe situation,” he said.
Statewide, 138 people were arrested for drinking and driving, and 2,798 got speeding tickets. That’s also a big reduction from 2009.
Nobody was seriously injured in Snohomish or Island counties this past weekend, but two people were killed elsewhere in the state, Leary said.
