In the next week, if you’re watching Oprah or Ellen, Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune, you may also see a 30-second ad opposing proposed cuts in state funding of healthcare programs.
A coalition of groups including the Washington State Hospital Association, the Community Health Network of Washington and Service Employees International Union Local 775 put up about $100,000 for the commercials.
The ads started airing today on major stations including KING, KOMO and KIRO.
The coalition behind the ads is the same one that’s been talking up the need for a revenue-raising measure on the November ballot. Its done polling and held focus groups and shared info with lawmakers on such ideas as a temporary hike in the sales tax.
While polling numbers don’t show much enthusiasm for any tax hikes, individuals who are polled are expressing shock and disbelief at the types of cuts proposed by the Legislature.
