A tip of the hat to Jason Mercier for alerting me to the lengthy list of candy that will be subject to sales tax posted online by the state Department of Revenue.
Take your time. There are tabs for individual candy makers so you can learn that all of Brown &Haley products are taxable and almost all of Hershey’s too – execpt for say Good &Plenty and Kit Kat.
What is candy under this tax?
From the law:
‘Candy’ means a preparation of sugar, honey, or other natural or artificial sweeteners in combination with chocolate, fruits, nuts, or other ingredients or flavorings in the form of bars, drops, or pieces. ‘Candy’ does not include any preparation containing flour and does not require refrigeration.”
