PORTLAND, Ore. — With cooler temperatures and rain reducing the threat of wildfire, a fire ban in state parks has been eased.
The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department said Friday that fires are allowed in designated metal fire pits in the Columbia Gorge, Willamette Valley, Portland-area, and on the coast from Fort Stevens near Astoria to Honeyman Memorial State Park near Florence.
A campfire ban continues unchanged on the beach, in coastal state park campgrounds south of Reedsport, and in central, eastern, and southern Oregon.

Meanwhile, crews continue to boost containment on Oregon’s largest wildfires. The Canyon Creek Complex near John Day was up to 66 percent containment Friday morning. The Stouts fire burning east of Canyonville since July is 98 percent contained.
