INDEX — Crews on Wednesday continued to monitor a stubborn fire on the Index Town Wall.
The fire Tuesday was less than an acre in size but about 700 feet up the wall, Index Fire Chief Ernie Walters said. It was reported shortly before noon.
It was too dangerous for firefighters to climb up, he said. A state Department of Natural Resources helicopter was used to dump water and was back in the area Wednesday evening for a flareup.
