BRIER — A faulty electric blanket was the probable cause of a fire that caused at least $60,000 in damage to a home on Monday night.
The fire was reported about 11:15 p.m. in the 22600 block of 22nd Place W. A couple were in bed when they heard a crackle at the foot of the bed and then saw a burst of flames where the electric cord connected to the blanket, according to Snohomish County Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes.
They escaped safely, and later told firefighters that the blanket was old.
Firefighters found flames shooting from the bedroom window when they arrived, Hynes said.
The fire was contained to the bedroom, but there was heavy smoke damage throughout the house. Hynes said it was uninhabitable and the couple was staying with neighbors.
