A fire Sunday night at the Strawberry Patch Restaurant on Colby Avenue in downtown Everett is being investigated as accidental, said Rick Robinson, Everett Fire Department inspector.
The fire at 2718 Colby Ave. was reported at about 8 p.m. Sunday from someone calling on a cellular telephone.
“Someone who was going by noticed the windows were black,” Robinson said.
The fire started in the kitchen area and is being blamed on mechanical or electrical malfunction from a refrigerator or soup warmer, he said.
Damage is estimated between $30,000 to $50,000, Robinson said. Insurance inspectors were expected at the scene today. The building is owned by Jim Burkett.
