ARLINGTON — Two people were injured and a total of seven people were displaced by a fire that destroyed an Arlington home early Saturday.
The two-story house in the 5200 block of 170th Place NE was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived about 3:50 a.m. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the house was a total loss, Arlington assistant city administrator Kristin Banfield said.
Investigators believe the cause of the fire to be a portable heater that was placed too close to pet bedding and the exterior of the house, Banfield said. The damage bill was estimated at $225,000.
Two people who were inside the home were taken to Cascade Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Banfield said. The other five people in the home were uninjured.
The family dog is believed to have died in the fire. Six vehicles parked at the home were also damaged in the blaze.
The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross is providing assistance to the people who lived at the home.
Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Getchell, Marysville and North County Fire &EMS assisted the Arlington Fire Department in battling the house fire.
