GOLD BAR — An early morning fire Thursday destroyed a repair and maintenance building at Arctic Commercial Refrigeration.
A passer-by reported the fire near U.S. 2 at 12:34 a.m., said Chief Eric Andrews of Snohomish County Fire District 26.
Crews rushed to the scene and saw flames.
Propane, acetylene and other chemicals in the building forced the firefighters to remain outside, Andrews said.
Crews poured water on the structure and were able to knock down the flames before they spread to other buildings.
No one was injured, Andrews said.
The fire destroyed the building, forklifts and more, Andrews said. He estimated the loss at about $500,000.
Investigators are trying to determine the cause of the fire, which appears to be accidental, Andrews said.
